Romance Scams Targeting Foreign Visitors ("Yabancı Avcısı")

A foreign visitor — often a woman travelling alone, often 40+ — meets someone in a tourist district (hotel staff, tour guide, waiter, carpet shop). Weeks later, after the relationship moves fast on WhatsApp, money requests start: a sudden medical emergency, visa fees, a business deal gone wrong. The asks grow. The asker is rarely seen at home and never introduces family.

🚩 Red flags

Money request for a sudden "emergency" within weeks (visa, surgery, business)
Never introduced to family or close friends in Turkey
Refuses video calls or visits to his home/workplace
Story of recent personal tragedy creating urgency
Profile photos that reverse-image-search to other people
Resistance when you suggest local apps (BiTaksi, Yemeksepeti) that would create a paper trail with his name on it
